Advanced Open Water PADI Certification Gold Course in Playa del Carmen
Ready to take your diving to the next level? The Advanced Open Water PADI Certification - Gold package with DUNE Mexico combines advanced diving adventures with Enriched Air (Nitrox) training, giving you more ways to explore the underwater world around Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Over three days, you’ll build confidence, refine your diving techniques, and discover new underwater environments. Alongside your Advanced Open Water Diver training, you’ll learn how to plan and dive with enriched air, subject to completing the relevant course requirements.
This comprehensive package includes online learning materials, diving equipment, five adventure dives, including two Nitrox dives, one additional exploration dive, and Nitrox theory. Upon successfully completing both courses, you’ll earn two certifications: PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and PADI Enriched Air Diver.
What’s Included in the Gold Course?
Your Advanced Open Water training begins with two mandatory adventure dives:
- Deep Diving: Learn about the practical considerations and physiological effects of deeper diving, and improve your use of a dive computer.
- Underwater Navigation: Develop your compass skills and practise navigating with kick cycles, visual landmarks, and time.
You can then choose additional adventure dives based on your interests and the options available at our dive center. These may include:
- Wreck Diving
- Drift Diving
- Night Diving
- Peak Performance Buoyancy
- Fish Identification
- Underwater Naturalist
- Search and Recovery
The Gold package also includes training in Enriched Air (Nitrox), helping you understand how to use this breathing gas for recreational diving within the appropriate limits.
PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox) Training
As part of this package, you’ll learn how to:
- Understand the benefits and limitations of diving with enriched air.
- Plan Nitrox dives using the appropriate procedures and exposure limits.
- Apply essential safety considerations when diving with enriched air.
Two of your adventure dives are planned as Nitrox dives, subject to course requirements and operational availability.
Prerequisites
To join the course, you must:
- Hold a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver certification or an equivalent qualification from a recognized training organization.
- Be at least 12 years old for the Junior Advanced Open Water Diver course, or 15 years old for the standard Advanced Open Water Diver course.
- Complete the PADI medical questionnaire. If your answers indicate that medical clearance is required, you must consult a physician before starting training.
Additional requirements may apply to the Enriched Air course. DUNE Mexico will confirm these before your training begins.
What Will You Learn?
During the Advanced Open Water course, you’ll develop skills in deep diving, underwater navigation, and the adventure dives you select. Your Nitrox training will also introduce you to the benefits, limitations, and planning considerations of enriched-air diving.
The combination of advanced adventure dives and Nitrox training makes Gold a great option if you want to expand your skills through a single, comprehensive package.

Program and Schedule :
Day 1 : 2 afternoon dives on the reef of Playa de Carmen (meet at 11:45 a.m.)
Day 2 : 2 morning dives on the reef of Playa de Carmen (meet at 7:45 a.m.)
- Nitrox theory in the afternoon (meet at 2 p.m.)
Day 3 : 2 morning Nitrox dives on the reef of Playa de Carmen (meet at 8:00 a.m.)

Always with a smile, he strives to provide a comfortable and safe experience for every visitor. Passionate about video games and sports, he enjoys the dynamic environment at Dune. He dreams of becoming a dive instructor or a tour driver and learns something new every day to get closer to his goal.

Instructor
Killian is from Bordeaux, France, where it’s too cold to work during the winter. After a couple of months in Playa del Carmen, he’s enjoying the warm weather and the lively diving scene. With 4 years of experience as an instructor, he’s also a lifeguard and has studied English literature. A CMAS, PADI, and SSI instructor, Killian loves exploring rocks and cenotes. He speaks English, French, and is learning Spanish to better connect with the local community and divers.

Vicente, our boat captain, is much more than just a sailor: he’s the true guardian of the oceans! With a smile as wide as the horizon and humor as refreshing as a sea breeze, he watches over our vessels with the discipline of a captain. When he's not navigating through the waves, he reminds us that the oceans aren’t trash bins and that even a small action matters in protecting them. In short, with Vicente at the helm, we feel safe, but always ready to laugh and discover the wonders of the sea!

Barracuda
The barracuda is impressive in that it sometimes stays still and waits for prey to approach during its hunting trips! With the adult measuring 80 cm in length on average, its streamlined silhouette and strong jaws make it clearly identifiable.
Moray eel
A snakelike fish, the moray eel is a shy creature that does not completely show itself. Hidden away in rocks and corals and with a body measuring up to 3 metres in length, it is only very rarely seen. From between the rocky walls, it lashes out to attack its prey at lightning speed, trapping it between its serrated jaws.
Lobster
Lobsters are fascinating crustaceans often spotted on night dives, hiding in crevices along coral reefs. Known for their long antennae and vibrant coloring, these creatures are skilled at navigating the reef’s rocky terrain. Observing a lobster’s graceful movements and unique features is always a memorable experience underwater.
