With the PADI Open Water Diver Certification in Mexico, you can go from a complete beginner to a certified scuba diver, even if you have little or no previous experience. Learn at your own pace with a PADI Instructor and discover why scuba diving is such an incredible adventure!

Your certification is recognized worldwide and allows you to dive to a maximum depth of 18 meters / 60 feet, subject to your training and experience. Best of all, your certification does not expire, so your underwater adventures can continue wherever your travels take you.

The Fun Part: Learning to Dive!

Learning to dive is an adventure from the very beginning. You’ll start by building your knowledge and practicing essential skills before heading into the beautiful Caribbean Sea. With clear waters, colorful fish, and a fascinating underwater environment, Playa del Carmen is an exciting place to begin your diving journey.

During your course, you’ll complete at least two confined-water training sessions and four open-water dives on the reefs of Playa del Carmen, all under the supervision of your PADI Instructor. Get ready to build confidence, explore the reef, and experience the magic of breathing underwater!

Prerequisites

Before starting your course, you must:

  • Be at least 10 years old for the Junior Open Water Diver course or 15 years old for the Open Water Diver certification.
  • Demonstrate that you can tread water for 10 minutes and swim 200 meters.
  • Complete the PADI Medical Questionnaire. Depending on your answers, you may need medical clearance from a physician before participating in scuba diving training.

What You Will Learn

The PADI Open Water Diver course has three main parts:

1. Theory

Start learning the basics of scuba diving through PADI eLearning, videos, knowledge reviews, and quizzes. You’ll explore topics such as pressure and depth, the underwater environment, dive planning, and scuba equipment. Once your booking is confirmed, we’ll send you the online learning materials so you can get started.

2. Confined-Water Training

Next, you’ll practice essential scuba skills in a swimming pool or another controlled environment. With guidance from your instructor, you’ll learn techniques such as equalizing your ears, clearing and replacing your mask, and using your equipment comfortably before moving into open water.

3. Open-Water Dives

Now it’s time for the real adventure! During four open-water dives, you’ll put your new knowledge and skills into practice under the supervision of your PADI Instructor.

Explore the reefs of Playa del Carmen and discover a colorful Caribbean ecosystem filled with tropical fish, coral formations, rays, turtles, lobsters, and other fascinating marine life. Every dive is an opportunity to learn something new, grow in confidence, and enjoy the freedom of exploring underwater.
